Interactive Workshop for the Development of a National Drone Policy and Strategy and Drone Use Case Landscape Review and Prioritization

Following the successful completion of the Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Regulations (SLCAR Part 6D – Unmanned Aircraft Systems), supported under SLDTP, the project has advanced its support to the Ministry of Communication, Technology and Innovation (MoCTI) toward the development of a comprehensive National Drone Policy and Strategy.

As part of this process, a stakeholder consultation workshop was convened to inform both the drone use case landscape review and the policy development framework.

The workshop brought together representatives from key sector Ministries, Departments and Agencies, academia, development partners, and private sector stakeholders.

The consultation focused on:

  • Mapping and prioritizing high-impact drone use cases aligned with national development priorities
  • Assessing ecosystem readiness for operational deployment
  • Identifying policy, regulatory, and institutional linkages
  • Defining governance, safety, and implementation pathways

With the regulatory framework now established, the development of a National Drone Policy and Strategy represents a critical step toward operationalizing drones in priority sectors such as agriculture, disaster risk management, health, and environmental monitoring.

Through SLDTP support, Sierra Leone continues to strengthen its digital governance architecture and position itself as a regional leader in responsible drone innovation.

The development of the National Drone Policy and Strategy will provide a clear roadmap for safe, secure, and scalable drone deployment nationwide.
