Securing Sierra Leone’s Digital Future: Talks Begin on Second Submarine Cable”

Sierra Leone currently relies on a single submarine fiber cable to meet the nation’s bandwidth needs. As digital services expand, the need for a second submarine cable has become critical to ensure network resilience, reliability, and uninterrupted access.

As part of the ongoing World Bank Implementation Support Mission for Sierra Leone Digital Transformation Project, Jana Kunicova, Practice Manager for Digital Development at the World Bank, joined the Task Team and the PCU in a strategic meeting with the leadership of mobile network operators and infrastructure providers to explore initiatives to secure a second submarine landing cable for Sierra Leone.

Recognizing the strategic relevance of this effort to the success of national digital transformation, the SLDTP is keen to identify and support opportunities that will advance this initiative and strengthen the country’s digital backbone.
